- Not to be confused with Species
Skins are the different character models in Mope.io that affect how an animal appears while being used in-game. They are purely for aesthetic purposes; different skins do not provide gameplay advantages. Customized Shop skins and Classic skins can be accessed by purchasing them in the Shop with coins. If the player is not logged in to a Shop account, the default skin that will appear for their own animal they play as will be Season 1 skins. However, the Store-bought skins of other logged-in players will be visible for everyone.
Overview
- There are two main types of skins: default skins and Shop skins. Default skins are the skins that are used by default for all animals, and will be applied to logged-out players; Shop skins can be purchased from the Shop. The Season 1 skins are currently the default skins as of November 2024.
- Not all animals have purchasable skins in the Shop. The Shop skins are for display only, and have no added bonus from purchasing them.
- Sometimes, the developers will remove certain skins from the Shop. When this happens, the removed skin can usually still be used in-game by players who purchased it prior to its removal.
- The Snowman, Snowgirl, and Bigfoot have been confirmed to be completely different animals rather than simply skins, and are the only animals whose rarity is decreased through purchase from the Shop.
- To access the oldest skins, the player must go to the settings and select
No animal images
. - Classic skins can be accessed via the Classic Skins Pack in the Shop.
Types of skins
All skins that have ever been added can generally be categorized into these categories:
- Oldest skins, also called low-graphic skins or no animal images skins: they can be seen if animal images is toggled off in settings, and generally appear as colored circles with minimal detail. Until October 29, 2016, these were the default skins of the game.
- Classic skins, also referred to as Legacy skins: the default in-game skins for all animals from October 30, 2016 until December 23, 2019; most were replaced by the Season 1 skins until they were restored as a Store deal).
- Winter skins: there are different skins for 2016, 2017, and 2022; all Winter skins are currently inaccessible.
- Zombie skins: exclusive to the removed Zombie Infection game mode; currently inaccessible.
- Season 1 skins, also known as high-definition (HD) skins: currently the default skins for most animals; first added on December 23, 2019 for most animals to replace the Classic skins, were replaced by Season 2 skins on February 1, 2022, and returned on November 15, 2024.
- Season 2 skins, also known as ultra high-definition (UHD) skins: replaced the Season 1 skins in the Season 2 update on February 1, 2022, and removed on November 15, 2024; currently inaccessible.
- Shop skins, also referred to as Store skins: they can be accessed only by purchasing them from the Shop. There are subcategories of customized Shop skins based on updates in which they were added in:
- Locked skins
- Golden skins
- Gold Trim skins
- Halloween skins (themed update: there are different Halloween skins for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023; the 2020 and 2023 Halloween skins are no longer available for purchase)
- Storefront skins
- Summer skins (themed update: there are different skins for 2021, 2022, and 2025; the 2021 summer skins are no longer available for purchase)
- May 2022 skins
- Christmas skins (not the same as Winter skins, no longer available for purchase)
- Valentine skins (themed update, no longer available for purchase)
- Promo skins (these skins are usually free and added to celebrate a real-world event; see the section to see which are available)
- March 2025 skins
- There is also a subset of customized Shop skins called premium skins (previously used to refer to them in general) which are skins that can only be bought with gems.
Wardrobe
A video tutorial of how to equip skins via the wardrobe
As of November 15, 2024, to use Store skins in-game players must customize them via the wardrobe. The wardrobe can be accessed by players who have an account, by going into the Shop > Wardrobe > Tier X > Select the skin from the dropdown.
For example, if the player wants to use a Store-bought skin for the Mouse, they must log in to their account, go to the wardrobe, and scroll down to tier 1. Then, if the player has Store skins for an animal of that tier, there will be a dropdown that the player can click; from there, click the desired skin, and it will be applied in-game. Only skins that have been purchased by the player will appear in the dropdown. The player must repeat this process individually for all animals that they want to use skins for. Alternatively, the skin can be set to random where a random skin out of the ones owned for the animal appears in-game, although due to a bug it seems to normally default to the default skin. Otherwise, the Season 1 skin will be used by default if the skin customization has not been altered.
If the player has not purchased skins for a particular animal, that animal will not appear in the wardrobe; the default Season 1 skin will be used for it. For example, in the screenshot pictured to the right, only the Mouse and Shrimp appear in the wardrobe, meaning that player only has Store skins for the Mouse and Shrimp for tier 1.
Example of different skins
The above categories are displayed below when applied to the skins of the Mouse:[note 1]
List of Shop skins
Below is a comprehensive list with tables of Shop skins – that is, skins which are purchased from the Shop – as of June 28, 2025. These skins are categorized by the lowest price first (starting at "FREE!" if applicable), then lowest tier first, biome from the order Land, Volcano, Ocean, Arctic, and Desert, and finally by the position in the Store.
Golden skins
These skins were added into the Shop in the "Golden Age" update on December 23, 2019. The Golden skins were originally available to buy individually, but since the Summer update on July 30, 2021, the only way to obtain them is by purchasing the discounted Golden Skins pack (which buys all the skins at once). The costs below applied to individual skins prior to the Summer update.

Locked skins
Locked skins, also sometimes called Golden Age skins, were added in two separate updates; the majority were added on December 23, 2019, and the rest were added on March 3, 2020. Like the Golden skins, these Locked skins were available to buy individually before the 2021 Summer Update but can now only be bought all at once through the discount Locked skins pack. The costs below applied to individual skins prior to the Summer Update.
Storefront skins
These skins were added in the Storefront update on May 22, 2021, giving them their name. This update marks the first time free skins were added, alongside skins requiring mopecoins.
Due to the price changes on March 29, 2025, the free skins have since been changed to cost mopecoins, alongside other minor price changes.

Halloween skins
Halloween skins are a category of Shop skins that are usually released near the day of Halloween: October 31.
2020
This group of Halloween skins were introduced across multiple updates: October 23, October 25, November 1, and November 4, 2020. On December 31, all of them were bundled into two bulk Deals, making the skins not individually purchasable.
Finally, on May 27, 2021, they were removed completely. Because of this, the 2020 Halloween skins cannot currently be bought in the Shop. Any Halloween skins bought beforehand (either in the Deals or separately) are still usable in-game.

2021
On October 25, 2021, 30 more Halloween Skins were added to the Shop. Unlike the 2020 Halloween Skins, some of these are free to purchase, but most are not. Certain skins are based on the Season 2 skins, which was in the works at the time. Since March 29, 2025, the skins which used to be free have been changed to now cost coins.
The Black Asura Fox has been seemingly removed from the game entirely since February 1, 2022, being unable to be used in-game even for players who purchased it.

2022
The first nine of these Halloween skins were added to the Store on October 20, 2022, with 13 more being introduced on October 27. According to the developers, they were initially created around the time that the 2021 Halloween skins were created.
An Black Dragon skin known as the "Riptide Revenant" was included in the October 27 changelog entry and is accessible in the game files,[1] but for an unknown reason was not released in-game and cannot be purchased in the Shop.

2023
10 skins were added for Halloween on October 30, 2023. A couple skins appear to be summer-based, possibly indicating a merger of the two.
An unnamed Crocodile skin is known to exist in the files as a free skin.[2]
The 2023 Halloween skins were removed from the Shop on March 29, 2025, and cannot currently be purchased; anyone who purchased them prior to their in-Store removal can still use these skins in-game.

Summer skins
Summer skins are themed Skins that are released sometime during the season of summer for the Northern Hemisphere (June, July, and August).
2021
These skins were added in the Summer Update on July 30, 2021. According to the Changelog, they would be available for buying through August and September 2021 only but were not removed for many years.
On March 29, 2025, the 2021 summer skins were removed from the Shop. However, they can still be used if purchased before then.

2025
Nine new summer skins were added on June 28, 2025. This was the second update to add premium skins (purchased with gems), and the first update to add a mix of premium skins and normal skins that use coins. This was also the first time that summer skins have been added in June rather than July.
These skins are able to be purchased separately with the costs listed in the table, or they can be purchased all together in the "A 2025 Summer Pack" deal for 3500 gems (25% discount).

May 2022 skins
8 new skins were released as part of the May 27, 2022 changes. These were described as "sitting there for months".
The Aberrant Dragon skin was replaced by a more monstrous skin known as the "Ghoul Dragon" around August 2024 for unknown reasons; it was still mistakenly called "Aberrant Dragon" in the Shop. Then, the Aberrant Dragon's original design returned on November 15, 2024.

March 2025 skins
Three new skins were added in the March 29, 2025 changes. Unlike with previous skins, this update marked the first time that skins which cost gems, rather than mopecoins (i.e. premium skins), were added. This was also the first update to add new skins since the 2023 Halloween skins update (excluding the Santa Dragon promo skin).

Gold Trim skins
- See also: Deals
The Gold-Trim skins are separated into four deals: the Land and Ocean deals were added on October 19, 2020, and the Desert and Arctic deals were added on October 21. Before being removed, each of them costed 12500 Mopecoins (formerly 25000 and later 10500); a total of 50000 for all four deals, and corresponding to a respective biome: Land, Ocean, Arctic, and Desert. Most animals in the biome's food chain up to tier 12 have a part of the usual skin golden, but not entirely like the Golden Skins. Depending on the animal, there may be other differences as well. The Forest animals do not have Gold-Trim skins.
On March 29, 2025, all Gold-Trim skin deals were removed from the Shop; they can no longer be purchased. However, the Gold-Trim skins can still be used in-game by players who bought them prior to their removal.

Classic skins
Classic skins, also known as Legacy skins, are part of a skins pack deal added to the Shop in the Storefront update of May 22, 2021.
This group of skins was previously used as the default skins for all animals from October 30, 2016 until December 23, 2019 (the beginning of Season 1). The Classic skins were unable to be used in-game until they were added back to the Shop.
Upon release, the Classic skins were originally priced at 19999 mopecoins; on March 29, 2025, it was changed to cost 5000 gems.

Promo skins
Promo skins, or Promotional skins, are standalone skins that are added in recognition of a special event or occurrence in the Mope.io community. Each of these skins were added in a separate update. The first promo skin was added in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Addicting Games' foundation, on September 21, 2022. While the Giant Squid was re-added in the same update and potentially for the same purpose, it is considered a 2022 Summer skin rather than a promo skin..

Trivia
- Before the Shop and accounts were added, players who wanted different skins would use Custom Redirects or extensions to make an Animal look different. However, they were purely client-side; unable to be seen by other players.
- The animals to have the most custom Shop skins are the three dragons; the Dragon, Black Dragon, and King Dragon (if the skins of Species is included, the Toucan has the most skins overall).
- According to Shaun Goodwin, the smaller text on the Squishy Dragon, Squishy Kraken, and Squishy Yeti's tag reads "uwu owo uwu" repeatedly as an easter egg. King Of Agario wanted something else to be put instead.[3]
- Also according to Shaun, the Squishy Dragon was the first squishy apex skin and has a different palette to more resemble a pool toy.[4]
Glitches
- There have been various instances of assets not showing up properly, particularly for Shop skins. In these cases, the low-graphic skin would appear instead.
- The Classic skins previously appeared stretched out, circa 2024. This bug was fixed at an unknown date.
Footnotes
- ↑ The Mouse does not have a May 2022 skin, a Halloween skin for 2022 and 2023, a 2022 Christmas skin, a Valentine skin, a March 2025 skin, or a 2025 Summer skin.

Shaun Goodwin [@shaungoodwin] (June 28, 2023). Shaun Goodwin [@shaungoodwin] (June 28, 2023). if you mean the squishy dragon, the reason i changed the colors is because they're all themed to be pool toys, and pool toys are usually more heavily saturated and have vibrant colors (Message from Mopecord).
