UPGRADED to Sea Monster!
Create a whirlpool to trap prey!

The Sea Monster is the 16th Ocean animal in Mope.io, and is the equivalent of the Land Monster, Dino Monster, Bird Monster, Ice Monster, and Giant Scorpion.

Technical[]

  • Upgrades from the Phoenix, Kraken, King Crab, Dragon, T-REX, The Bigfoot, Yeti, Snowman or Pterodactyl at 5M XP.
  • Upgrades to the Black Dragon/King Dragon at 10M XP.
  • Has a “Underwater Giant Whirlpool” ability which sucks in all animals in a nearby radius (similar to the Kraken's but with different graphics) at the cost of some air.
    • Its ability lasts much longer than the Kraken's and has a larger radius. It can suck in any entity, including food, from nearby land and water.
    • When food with Health Bars are sucked into the whirlpool ability of the Sea Monster, their health bars would be disregarded and they will be eaten in one hit by the Sea Monster. However, this special ability will only activate when the Sea Monster is in a water body - food bitten by it on land will have their usual health bars.
    • Any Animals in the radius of the ability will take about a fourth of their health in damage and will be sucked and stunned. They will appear diving while in the whirlpool.
    • The ability causes the Sea Monster to enter a diving state while the whirlpool is active. Unlike actual diving, it can damage any Animals caught in the whirlpool.
    • The ability can only be used in water.
  • Has an 'AIR' bar instead of a water bar. Air is gained by staying on the water level (not diving), by using a Healing Stone, and eating an Animal. It is lost while diving, in a Hiding Hole, using the ability, or if on Land.
    • Staying on the water for too long without diving or going into a whirlpool will damage the player for about an eighth of their hp.
  • Can eat all types of food except Cactus Pear, Dates and berries.
  • Can eat all animals below it (animals from Kraken to Turtle).

Appearance[]

Sea Monster[]

It is a teal squid/dragon hybrid, with darker sides. Its head is a deformed snake-like dragon head, edged with small, sharp teeth. It has 3 tentacles on each side of its body, that go outwards. It has a spiky crown on its head with a flap of skin in between each spike. There are also sets of 4 spikes going vertically down its back and a big triangular spike at its tail. The Sea Monster's body is covered with spots on both sides, and eye-shadow is under the eyes. Its tail has a broad triangular end that bends downwards at the ends, similar to the Black Dragon's.

When diving, its presence in the water is 4 slightly purple diving spots and 2 faint dirty green dots representing the tentacles. Its crown also sticks out slightly but is lighter in color. Other skins are are the same but recolored appropriately.

Golden Sea Monster[]

As its name suggests, the Golden Sea Monster is yellow in color. Its spikes of its crown are longer and curve inwards slightly, lacking webbing. It has spots on its back and no back spikes, although has many spikes curving upwards on the sides of its body with a small lighter colored rim. Its teeth are also yellow. The eye shadow is whole instead of being broken up.

Sapphire Sea Monster[]

The Sapphire Sea Monster is dark blue. Its tentacles are positioned slightly lower than the normal Sea Monster. The webbing on its crown is pale blue. The spikes down its spine are arranged similarly to the crown, and it has a lighter blue scaled pattern instead of spots on the sides of its body. Its nostrils are different.

Luckycharm Monster[]

The Luckycharm Monster is bright green, with orange sideburns and squarish teeth. The eyeshadow is clover-shaped, and its eyes aren't narrowed like the other skins, giving the appearance it is jolly. Its first right tentacle is holding a brown sign that says "Thank you!", and its opposite tentacle is holding a small gray pot of gold. The monster has a small lime green hat teetered above its right eye. The Luckycharm monster has no spikes or spots on its back and instead has 3 four-leaved clovers. The spikes on its tentacles are rounded rectangles, and its tail splits into 4 rounded points. It appears to be based off a leprechaun.

Ancient Tortoise[]

Not to be confused with: the Turtle

The Ancient Tortoise is a teal turtle with a blue spiked shell. Its flippers are spiked as well, and it has an underbite. It has an angered expression and a short tail. It has an appearance similar to the Leatherback Turtle.

Old/Legacy Sea Monster[]

The old Sea Monster is generally the same as the current Sea Monster, lacking folds, having a smaller snout with small circles, and circles for tentacles. Its tail is much thicker and long with a normal triangle at the tip. The spots on its back are lighter, and the spikes are smaller, only in sets of two. It has a whole eyeshadow.

Strategy[]

As a Sea Monster[]

  • Besides the air system and the walking on land without needing water, the Sea Monster works pretty much just as a higher tier version of The Kraken.
  • It's best to find KrakensKing Crabs or other apex tier animals, and pull them underwater to eat them.
    • Krakens shouldn't be difficult to kill once caught as their ability is near identical to the Sea Monster's and is very poor defensively. King Crabs however, pose more of a threat with their arm smashes and can escape on land. In the worst case scenario, the King Crab can even smash the player onto shore!
  • Because the Sea Monster's ability works at close ranges, chasing after prey won't yield a high success rate. As a result, the Sea Monster's main way of hunting is to dive under Rocks and Hills and wait for prey to swim near. Once they are close enough, the player should swim outwards to use their whirlpool.
  • One strategy is baiting Animals or Ocean apexes into coming near the player with promises of free tail-bites or a free kill. When one is close enough, the player can use their ability to trap them for a free meal.
  • One can also find 2 apexes in a 1v1 arena. Sneak under a hill or rock next to the arena(not under the arena unless the player is in a Whirlpool, as it will push out Animals beneath it when the fight is finished) near its end, and use the whirlpool on the winner once the game is over. The apexes should not notice the player as they will be focused on winning, especially if they have the Hide Outside World option toggled, as it is guaranteed that they cannot see the Sea Monster.
    • The player should keep in mind that the victor is invincible for about 10 seconds after the arena ends and can't be damaged at all during that timeframe. Furthermore, the player should also make sure they lack enough xp to upgrade(one can check with a brief glance at the Leaderboard unless the lowest player's xp is higher than the victor's xp), because if they do, they absolutely will upgrade and may potentially attack as another Sea Monster or just escape by evolving to a monster that lives far away from Ocean.
  • The Ocean has relatively little farming potential with the exception of Islands, so leveling up might be a lengthy process as a Sea Monster.
  • As the player passes by Islands, inch as close as possible to them(without beaching) and use the ability to pull all the food off the Island. Taking advantage of the fact the whirlpool digests everything for the player, the conch shells are one-bites. Doing so will provide substantial XP, and should level up the player quickly alongside the strategies listed. The player must take care to avoid swimming too close to the island or they will beach themselves, reverting the Conches back to their usual hp and practically will be a waste of a whirlpool.
  • The player can use Water Spots to travel to a Lake where they can kill Ducks for xp. When there are ducks nearby, wait until they venture closer and pounce!

Threats to the Sea Monster[]

  • The player should beware of the Golden Eagle who will likely grab and throw the Sea Monster out of the Ocean onto dry land.
    • If they manage to grab the player and pull them onto dry land, the Sea Monster will not lose air in the same way that other sea animals lose Water on land. It will take a good while to die from lack of air on land, depending on how full the player's air bar was to begin with. However, the Sea Monster is passively burnt on land after certain intervals, which depletes the player's health rapidly and is more likely to kill than the lack of air.
    • The player can take advantage of that time to sluggishly return to the Ocean or at least take temporary refuge in any other available water source nearby. In any case, they should be as quick as possible and try to avoid the eagle taking the player to the Desert, Arctic or worse, the Volcano.
    • A way to avoid the Golden Eagle is to dive under when it's about to lift the player, and whirlpool them. The Golden Eagle will immediately be sucked in and can be eaten in one shot, even at full health. If it doesn't die, repeat and the player will get a tasty rare meal and coins from the bounty.
    • The same goes for Pakistan Vulture, Shahbaz, and Golden Shahbaz. If the latter two pick up the Sea Monster, it's probably curtains for the player as they have superior pick up time. However, they have recently been nerfed to have less hp, so if the player feeling risky they can try the Golden Eagle strategy on them. Note that the Shahbaz and Golden Shahbaz are much faster in their pick up stage than the Golden Eagle: It's best not to underestimate their speed.
  • The player should be wary of the T-REX, as they could be hazardous even deep in water. Although they are prey to the Sea Monster, their ability is powerful with a large raw damage output.
    • If the player is close to land and see a T-Rex, they should dive immediately as it will likely try dragging them onto shore. It's safest to be deeper in the ocean as T-Rexes are slow there so the player can have a free meal. If the player doesn't react to a T-Rex by the water, it can easily drag them out of the water where they are slow and take damage.
    • Note that the Boa Constrictor can do a similar strategy like the T-Rex and can potentially pull the player on shore. Their ability is easily stopped if the player faces the boa and damages them. Boas are sluggish in water and even slower when using their ability so staying away from shore is the safest way to avoid them.
  • Black Dragons shouldn't be a worry, as they will lose lava quickly. Even try to pull them back with the whirlpool if the Black Dragon is low on lava. When sucking one into the summoned whirlpool, the Sea Monster should stay away from it as it can still damage the player. Either way, the main goal is to isolate the Black Dragon from any Healing Stones, or it will still survive.
    • However, if there is a King Dragon in the server, the player should avoid it at all costs. Because of how the Sea Monster works, it cannot dive infinitely under a healing stone, and will most likely succumb to the KD's over powered fire and tail-slaps.

Against other Monsters[]

  • The Sea Monster's ability works primarily for capturing prey, not against other Monsters. The Sea Monster's main advantage over the other Monster's is its Ocean environment, as it is the only Monster fast in water.
  • Ice Monsters are the main Monster to watch out for. Their ice crystals are far ranged and deal a good amount of damage, able to kill the from the shore. The ice crystals also freeze the player temporarily. Missed ice crystals additionally leave an ice patch that causes loss of control. For these reasons, it's best to dive swiftly when one is near or retreat back into the Ocean. The Ice Monster will likely not follow the player into their domain. If it does, one can whirlpool it and dive while the ability recharges to keep it in.
    • However, the player will usually only find Ice Monsters in the upper part of the Ocean touching the Arctic, and can avoid most contact if they don't venture that way.
  • The Sea Monster can easily kill the Land Monster on the off chance one is in the Ocean. The player should use their whirlpool to keep it in the Ocean, dive to avoid retaliation, and repeat. Land Monsters are slow in water, can't dive, and lose lava swiftly in the Ocean, so the player can restrain them easily until they take damage from lava loss. Their ability is similar to the Sea Monster's, but is more forwards oriented and doesn't pose a big threat in water.
  • Fighting Dino Monsters is similar. They are slow but can charge to make an escape to land or a sandhill, so use the whirlpool to keep them back. The player should also be wary of the Dino Monster launching the player out of the Ocean, especially if the player is smaller than the Dino Monster. This is less of a problem if the player is substantially larger, as the charge doesn't throw as far if the Animal is larger, or when deep in the Ocean.
  • The Giant Scorpion is also not too hard to kill, particularly because it freezes in water. The Giant Scorpion's sting is much weaker outside the Desert because its induced shivering lasts a very short while. The Monster can climb Hills and Rocks to escape, so keep it away from terrain.
  • This particular strategy is easier to pull off with more Sea Monsters to keep the target constantly dragged farther and farther deep into the ocean.
    • To improve this strategy even more, the player can synchronize with the other Sea Monsters so that they can perfect their timing between every Sea Monster's ability time, to lessen the chance of the target escaping.

Against a Sea Monster[]

  • Sea Monsters mostly rely on Hills and Rocks to conceal them, especially chains. If the player knows there is a Sea Monster in the server, they should stay away from those terrain. Nonetheless, they should still be wary.
  • If the player is caught in the whirlpool, there is little chance they can escape due to the stunning and initial damage taken when sucked in.
  • Never confuse the Ancient Tortoise with a normal, low tier Turtle (especially if the Turtle is wearing the Leatherback Turtle skin, which looks even more similar to the Ancient Tortoise); it may cost the player their in-game life.
    • Although it may look similar, it's usually much larger in size. The Ancient Tortoise is dull teal with a blue scaly shell, as opposed to the blue skin and dark blue non-spiny shell the Leatherback Turtle has.
    • A last, much simpler but quite important difference is the fact that the Ancient Tortoise has angry eyes, something that no low tier Turtle (not even its skins) possesses. If the player is prey and still has trouble memorizing the differences of both animals, remember the basic knowledge: Avoid RED circled players!
  • If the player is a Shark, Killer Whale, or any other Animal with a long diving time, they can dive to safety in the presence of one.
  • The Blue Whale, Killer Whale, and King Crab have excellent defensive abilities to knock away the Sea Monster should one come near.

Killing a Sea Monster[]

  • As with most Ocean Animals, the main weakness of the Sea Monster is its reliance on water. That being said, its air bar allows it to survive on land for much longer than most as it drains a lot slower.
    • Most Sea Monsters are aware of the fact they are easy pickings for Rares, and as such stay deep in the ocean. Most of the following strategies fail or are much less effective in deep water.
  • Golden Eagles, Shahbazes, Golden Shahbazes, and Pakistani Vultures can easily kill Sea Monsters once grabbed. One only needs to drop the Monster on land, keep it away from Lakes and Water Spots, and lift it back up once the ability is ready again.
    • The player can even drop them in the Volcano as an offering to the Black Dragon who will likely be there.
    • If the player is a Paki Vulture, they should note that the water will freeze them periodically and stop the beginning portion of the ability.

Trivia[]

  • It is one of the only two Monsters to be re-skinned in the #GoldenAge (the other being Ice Monster).
  • When its ability is used, any nearby cactus, conch, mushroom bush, or beehive will be sucked into it (even if they aren't in the water), and can be eaten in a single hit.
    • Unlike other food items with health bars, gems cannot be eaten in one hit, instead healing and/or supplying air to the Sea Monster, and are the only breakable food unable to be eaten instantly.
  • The original Sea Monster skin was designed by TheGiantSlug.
  • It's the first animal in mope.io to use 'Oxygen' instead of water. Because of this, it's one of the only animals to use one bar instead of two(Others include the Black Dragon and King Dragon).
  • The Sea monster has the second longest dive time, with The Kraken coming in first place.
  • It was the first of monsters to be added in game.
