The Rock is a terrain-form in Mope.io that spawns in all biomes except for the Forest, and has a similar function to the hill. Unlike the hill, however, only a few select animals can move on top of rocks. Rocks were introduced on October 18, 2016.

Technical

• The rock is a feature that spawns in every biome in the game, other than the Forest.
• All rocks spawn next to hills, but not all hills appear alongisde rocks.
• The player's FoV does not expand if they are on a rock. Being on a hill and rock at the same time, however, will expand the player's FoV.
• Rocks can be used by all animals that have the passive ability of climbing on rocks, which goes hand-in-hand with being able to climb on hills. However, while all rock-climbers can also climb on hills, not all hill-climbers can climb on rocks.
  • However, if the player is using a floater, they will be unable to access rocks unless they stop using the floater.
• The following animals and rares have the passive ability of being able to climb over rocks:

Appearance

Current (S2)

The Season 2 design of the rock, which is the current in-game design as of February 1, 2022, is a slightly crooked gray circle that has faint outlines where the gray gradually becomes lighter towards the center of the rock. Various light and dark dots are littered around the Season 2 rock skin.

Old (S1)

The Season 1 era rock skin, which was the skin in-game from its introduction until the "Season 2" update, is a plain, gray circle with no additional detail.

2017 Reskin

The reskin of the rock from January 2017 is a gray circle that is decorated with a pattern of uneven triangular grooves.

Criticism

Shaun Goodwin created a reskin of the rock, which was added in-game on January 13, 2017 to replace the original design. The new design, however, was subject to criticism due to some players believing it was not cohesive with the minimalist design of many skins at the time. As a result, Shaun's reskin was removed and replaced with its predecessor on January 17.

Trivia

• Before November 23, 2016, rocks were the only terrain form in-game that were completely impenetrable.
• Players that use the Bald Eagle are able to fly over rocks when using its "Fly with Prey" ability, despite the Bald Eagle normally being unable to move on rocks.
• After Shaun's rock reskin was removed, the image was still accessible in the game files until recently.
• The Giant Spider does not technically have the passive ability of climbing on rocks. However, it can move around on them by using its "Spin Web" ability to place a web on top of a rock and walking on that web.
