"UPGRADED to King Dragon!
You got firestreams that burns your victim alive! Watch your tail and slap them hard!
"

The King Dragon, more commonly known as the KD, is a tier 17 Volcano animal in Mope.io. It is the equivalent of the Black Dragon, and was added in the "#KingOfMope" update on May 24, 2019.

Technical[]

  • Upgrades from the Black Dragon by killing one each of the following animals; Dragon, T-REX, The Kraken, King Crab, Phoenix, The Yeti,[note 1] Pterodactyl, Land Monster, Ice Monster, Dino Monster, Sea Monster, Giant Scorpion and Black Dragon (or another King Dragon).
    • Notably, despite the King Dragon causing an Upgrade Menu to appear when all the above animals have been killed, it is still at tier 17 and a equivalent to the Black Dragon. Like all tier 15+ animals, the King Dragon and Black Dragon are able to kill each other through tail bites and their special abilities.
    • The King Dragon can also upgrade from the tier 16 at 10M XP as an option on the Upgrade Menu instead of the Black Dragon. However, this requires pure luck; the chances of this phenomenon occurring are 1/1000.
  • The King Dragon is a Lava-drinking animal, meaning it has a Lava Bar instead of a water bar, and requires drinking lava from lava pools in the Volcano or Desert, or from a Healing Stone to survive.
  • It downgrades to the Mouse if its XP is reduced below 9.6M (this can only happen through other players biting a King Dragon's tail).
  • The Special Abilities of the King Dragon are:
    • "Fire Stream"; when pressing W, the King Dragon will emit a semi-circle of flames. The more XP the King Dragon has, the more fire is produced and the more damage the fire does. At 100M XP, a King Dragon can create a full spiral of fire if used while spinning.
    • "Tail Slap"; when pressing S, the King Dragon will use its tail to slap animals that are within a close radius of it. A single slap generally can kill animals below tier 15 instantly, if not extremely weaken them (Monsters and Black Dragons cannot be one-shot by it). The closer an animal is, the more lethal the damage. The damage is greater if the Animal is facing toward the King Dragon's tail.
  • The Passive Abilities of the King Dragon includes the ability to fly over everything, and an immunity to ink.
  • If two or more King Dragons are in the same server, upon the new King Dragon's upgrading, both King Dragons will forcibly be sent to the 1v1 arena. If there are more than two King Dragons in a server (e.g. three), the third King Dragon will be unaffected until the first two King Dragons have completed their 1v1, after which the third King Dragon will 1v1 the winner. This process will continue until only one King Dragon is alive in each server.

Appearance[]

The King Dragon's default ultra high-definition skin is a black reptilian creature with a notable head, a lengthy tail, and large orange wings. It resembles the Black Dragon at a first glance. It has two large curving horns, toothed jaws, red outlines under its huge eyes, and nostrils the same color. The King Dragon has a set of spiky ridges down its back and a triangular-shaped tail tip not unlike the Sea Monster. A bone is located at the base of its tail.

Unlike the majority of animals in the game, the King Dragon is animated. Its nostrils and eye outlines will fade in and out occasionally (skins vary). Its wings will slowly move up and down its body to resemble flapping. While the bone at its tail is normally gray, after tail-slapping it will turn orange and slowly fade back to gray as the ability recharges.

As it loses Lava, the King Dragon's wings will turn into darker shades of black, and will be completely black when at no lava.

The default and Classc King Dragon's fire is bright red orange with a yellow inner cone. Each skin has a distinct fire color.

Strategy[]

Acquiring[]

  • There are two methods to become a King Dragon in normal gameplay.
    • The first method is to get lucky with a 1/1000 chance of getting a King Dragon upon upgrading at 10M XP.
    • The other method is to "upgrade" from Black Dragon by killing all apexes from tier 15, monsters from tier 16, and another Black Dragon (or King Dragon).
      • From there it is a battle of skill. There are three main strategies to achieve killing all apexes (this can be done using one, or a combination of the strategies below):

Teaming[]

  • Though it is subject to a fair load of criticism, teaming is a strategy that is easier and more effective than 1v1 and nothing compared to Solo Hunting, but difficult nonetheless.
  • The first step is to team with players who are at apex tier, and get them to allow the player eat them. The player cannot do this with every single apex (there will not be one of every apex willing to die for the player's King Dragon, and if the player kills another player that they previously killed in the last 30 minutes, it will not count towards apex kills) killed in the last 30 mins it won't count) so the player will have to combine this with the other strategies.
    • In order to entice other players to sacrifice themselves, the player may want to offer them something in return, such as being rewarded with a bite of one's tail and re-upgrading them to the apex.
  • The player should ally themselves with Pterodactyls, Golden Eagles and Shahbazes, Pakistani Vultures, to get them to grab the apexes/monsters that are needed need and bring them to you, or have a Dino Monster or something similar chase/knock an apex/monster in your direction for you to kill.
  • Also, if the player kills another Black Dragon, they will receive the deceased Black Dragon's apexes. Therefore, try to kill XP-rich Black Dragons as the more XP they have, the more apexes they will probably have killed. This is more of an ideal strategy for players that are skilled at 1v1.
  • After achieving King Dragon, the player will probably be expected to provide compensation for any other players that helped, which would usually be in the form of biting the player's tail. The player should be wary of their XP, as they will downgrade to Mouse and lose all progress if their XP gets below 9.6M.
  • Another option is to team with another Black Dragon until they have nearly all apexes, then kill them. However, be aware that the Black Dragon may have teammates who may attack the player, and another animal could steal the kill, causing the loss of the apexes. This also might be risky if the player comes back to avenge their betrayal.

1v1[]

  • This strategy is much harder than Teaming, but easier than Solo Hunting. For 1v1 tips, click here.
  • It should only be attempted if the player is extremely skilled at 1v1. There is no way to tell whether anyone could easily kill the player, but...
    • The aim is to beat each of the apexes the player needs in a 1v1 fight in one go. 1v1 a Black Dragon who has a lot of apexes (the more XP they have, the more apexes they most likely would have killed), but beware that those that have the most apexes will also most likely be more skilled.
  • The player can go to an apex's biome to 1v1 it, or the player can have a teammate bring one to them if applicable. Most biomes are relatively safe in terms of lava bar preservation, but bear in mind that the Black Dragon is subject to debuff in the Arctic and will be more vulnerable there.

Hunting[]

  • This is the hardest strategy, as the player will have to go into each apex's respective biome to have more chances to find one.
    • The Land Monster and the Phoenix are the most convenient apexes to kill in terms of location, as they spawn in the Volcano biome. Dragons also tend to come to the Volcano frequently, making them another easy option.
    • The Desert is a crucial biome to go to because there the player will find some of at least four apexes there: the Pterodactyl, T-REX, Dino Monster, and Giant Scorpion. Being at tier 17, the player is no longer able to regain lava in the lava spots/pools of the Desert (which also can attract Phoenixes and Land Monsters).
    • The Land biome is where the player will find most of apexes: Dino Monster, Dragon, T-REX, The Yeti, and less commonly the King Crab, Land Monster, Phoenix, and Ice Monster. Roam around the area (but be aware of one's Lava bar and use Healing Stones frequently), and kill all apexes that can be seen.
    • The Ocean and Arctic are the hardest biomes for the player to hunt in, as there is no natural Lava sources – only Healing Stones.
      • The Ocean is harder than the Arctic because of diving and whirlpools – Sea Monsters, Krakens, and King Crabs can just dive and keep camping in Whirlpools forever.
      • The player will probably have to 1v1 or team their way into killing Ocean apexes (Krakens are sometimes willing to 1v1, but King Crabs and Sea Monsters probably won't, so you might have to team with them and ask them to let you kill them).
      • While in the Ocean, be particularly cautious of multiple Sea Monsters that have teamed up as they can continuously use their whirlpool and stop you from leaving the ocean, eventually killing you of lava loss (the player will not take damage from the Sea Monster's ability as a Black Dragon, but will gradually lose lava).
      • The player could probably kill a Yeti or an Ice Monster that strays into the Land biome, but in the Arctic, Ice Monsters have a better chance to fight the player off and even kill them and Yetis will have a better chance to escape.
      • Again, the player will probably have to 1v1/team their way out to survive an encounter of the aforementioned animals in their natural element.
      • The player can also hunt a BigFoot to get a Yeti kill. Although they are rare, it will be easier for the player to "kill a Yeti".

Using[]

  • If the player has obtained the King Dragon, congratulations! It is the highest level/maximum achievement that can be obtained in Mope.io.
  • There are no further levels to progress on to, except to be careful around animals that could potentially kill the player in large numbers (e.g. T-REXes, Dino Monsters and/or Ice Monsters).
  • King Dragons take damage if they have no lava; be cautious of this. Black Dragon strategies apply; try to stay somewhat close to the Volcano, or an area highly-populated by Healing Stones.
  • Another thing to be extremely careful of is downgrading. Unlike the Black Dragon, if a King Dragon has less than 9.6M XP, it will be downgraded to the Mouse rather than whatever monster is equivalent to the biome it's in.
    • Additionally, when a downgraded King Dragon dies, it will respawn at Mouse tier. So make sure to bypass the 10M XP mark, by killing lots of animals. Other than that, have fun trying to dominate the whole server!
  • If someone tries to tail-bite the player, react quickly by pressing S to tail slap them. If the tail slap doesn't kill the biter, they will probably be frightened off due to becoming weak from loss of health. But if there are Monster-tier animals (especially Ice and Dino Monsters), be careful, as they have more health than apexes.

Against[]

  • This animal is the hardest one to kill in Mope.io. It can one-shot kill nearly all animals with the powerful tail-slap, and extremely weaken animals with its fire-stream. When going against one, at least an apex tier or a powerful rare should be used. Otherwise, King Dragons should be avoided at all costs.
  • The only somewhat equal chance against a King Dragon is in the 1v1 arena. But even there, the King Dragon will likely be skilled at 1v1, so be cautious of that.
  • Since King Dragons have no natural predators, another way to get them to be killed is for them to die of lava loss. If the player can manage to lure one far out into the Ocean, Arctic or Desert, lead them as far away from Healing Stones as possible.
    • King Dragons do exceptionally well in the Desert biome, so the best way of escaping them is to flee to the Arctic or the Ocean. As the Arctic is the one biome King Dragon take freezing damage from (and due to quicker lava loss), it may be reluctant to stray too far in.
    • As for the Ocean, the player can use a Sea Monster's ability, as it can use its Whirlpool ability to trap the King Dragon and stall until its lava bar is low.
  • If the player manages to get together a team of T-REXes, Dino Monsters or a BigFoot (even a combination of each aforementioned animal), or a team of Toucans, theoretically they would have a chance of killing a King Dragon.
    • When attempting to kill one with sheer force, be passive-aggressive. Stay a safe distance away, otherwise the King Dragon will easily annihilate any animal. Appropriately, Dino Monsters should try tossing King Dragons far away from the lava; T-REXes should drag them around whilst they are distracted, and BigFoots should spear the King Dragon from an appropriate distance.
  • King Dragons will probably try to trick players into being killed by them, so be aware of that. They may say: "Kill me" or "Bite my tail". Then, if the player tries to bite their tail, they will slap the player hard and severely damage, if not instantly kill them. Because of this, do not be near the radius of a King Dragon's tail unless they are distracted by another creature.

Trivia[]

  • It is the only animal to receive more than two skins when the "#GoldenAge" update was implemented.
  • The King Dragon skins King Shah and King Stan are named after the developers KOA and Clickstan respectively.
  • The Red King Dragon (rumored as the "Great Red") is the third skin made by a non-official artist that got added into the game; it is also the first unofficial King Dragon skin to be announced. It was created by Feesh and posted on Reddit.
    • KOA edited the Great Red and changed the wings, eyes, and body design and renamed it "Queen Scarlet". This skin costed 30K coins and is now on the Locked Skins deal.
  • The fastest known solo King Dragon run was performed by the MopeTuber Dreamer; going from Mouse to King Dragon within 6 minutes and 58 seconds.[1]
  • Queen Scarlet is one of the few store skins to be reskinned and the only one to have been reskinned twice.
  • Feesh confirmed over on Reddit that King Crimson was going to be a planned Store skin, however it was scrapped as there were no major Store updates for it.[2]
  • Queen Celeste is actually a blue version of the Golden King Dragon, but with altered wings, snout, tail, and a different pattern. The original was a blue reskin of the Golden King Dragon posted on Reddit, and Syed was given the task to make it into a new skin.
  • In an old teaser, KOA showed that there was going to be a "Tail Slap" ability for Black Dragon pressing E, and if the Black Dragon was in the water, the slap would make a wave. The tail slap wave feature ultimately never made it into the game, but the rest is now part of the King Dragon.
