Hint: Hold Left-click to RUN! (Uses extra water)
The Trout is a tier 2 Ocean animal in Mope.io. It is the equivalent of the Rabbit, Pigeon, Arctic Hare and Desert Chipmunk. It was introduced in-game on November 22, 2016.
Technical
- Upgrades from the Mouse, Shrimp, Chipmunk or Desert Rat at 150 XP.
- Upgrades to the Crab, Mole, Chicken, Meerkat or Penguin at 400 XP.
- The food sources that it can consume are: berries, plankton, dates, honeycomb, carrots, and small meat.
- All tier 1 animals are prey of the Trout.
- Predators of the Trout includes all animals within the range of tier 3 to tier 7 (Crab to Turtle).
- The Special Ability of the Trout is "Extra Boost". When pressing
W
, the Trout will briefly increase its movement speed and boost forward, leaving a temporary dark patch in the place that the boost activated. - The Trout has no Passive Abilities.
- It can hide in all Hiding Spots.
Appearance
Trout
The Trout, when first upgraded, is perhaps the smallest animal in the game. It is also the first animal with a tail, which, unlike most animals tails, cannot be bitten by its prey. Its body is colored a rosy brown, with two pectoral fins, two adipose fins and one caudal fin. Two small sets of gills can be seen on both sides of the Trout's head.
Gold Trim
The Gold Trim Trout looks exactly like the default Trout, with the exception of its fins and tail having a gold appearance.
The Clownfish
The Clownfish has an orange-colored body, that is covered in white stripes. The white stripes have one edge colored black, and the Clownfish has four orange fins as well as an orange tail, which each have little black stripes on them too.
Popsicle Trout
The Popsicle Trout has a red, white, and blue body. It has three grooves down its back and a tan stick at its tail. It has larger pupils and appears to be dripping. It is the 2021 summer skin for Trout.
Strategy
- As the prey options of the Trout are limited, the most effective method of leveling up to the next tier is to farm for XP with food sources.
- Using a Healing Stone is the easiest and fastest way of gaining XP. Healing Stones, albeit sometimes hard to find, are reliable in the Ocean as they can be used while diving, which is handy against predators.
- The player can also go to plankton bushes and consume plankton there.
- A third option, which is the most effective, is to look for a player that is using the Shark, and consume the small meat pieces that will be produced from the Shark's "Jaw Bite" ability.
- Do not annoy the Shark too much, as if they view the player as a nuisance, they might use their Special Ability on the player, which will be a significant setback.
- A riskier way of acquiring XP is to use the "Extra Boost" ability to bite the tails of predators. The Turtle, Flamingo and Squid are ideal targets, though the player must watch out for the latter's ink.
- Like with the Shark strategy, the player must appear indifferent to the predator that they are attempting to bite, otherwise the targeted predator will become cautious and guard their tail.
- When the player is close enough to the predator, press
W
to speed up and bite their tail. Then, move on to another predator as it will be harder to bite the tail of the same predator twice.
- When being attacked by a predator, the player should use their Special Ability to flee. Camping in a whirlpool for a while will cause most predators to eventually move on.

Trivia
- The upgrade message states that the ability uses extra water. However, this wouldn't matter since the Trout is usually in the ocean and thus will not be largely affected by water loss.
Glitches
- When it was first released, the Trout had a glitched upgrade message, saying "Upgraded to Rabbit" instead of Trout. However, it was fixed the following day.
