UPGRADED to Markhor!
Press 'W' to Jump High from hills. Ram in the preys on land.

The Markhor is a tier 12 Arctic animal in Mope.io, and is the equivalent of the Wolverine, Eagle, Rhino, Shark and Bison.

Technical[]

Markhor[]

  • Upgrades from the Crocodile, Lion, Falcon, Octopus, Polar Bear or Vulture at 145K XP.
  • Upgrades to the Hippo, Boa Constrictor, Ostrich, Killer Whale, Sabertooth Tiger or Komodo Dragon at 350K XP.
  • It can eat all food sources in the game except for berries, dates, and cactus pears. Prey of the Markhor includes all animals within tier 5 to tier 11 (Polar Bear to Reindeer).
  • Predators of the Markhor are all animals within tier 13 to tier 17 (Sabertooth Tiger to Black Dragon).
  • While it does have a species, the regular Markhor also has a rarity and can only be chosen 600/700 times (it will not always be selectable).[1]
  • It has two special abilities; jump, and ram into prey.
  • The jump ability can only be started on a Hill or Rock. While W is held, the Markhor will slowly go backwards on the Hill/Rock and gain a red crosshair. Unlike other crosshairs, the crosshair has a limited amount of range, meaning the Markhor can't jump to the edges of the FOV. Once W is pressed a second time, the Markhor will stop moving and leap to wherever the crosshair is.
    • The Markhor can't move for a second after jumping.
    • The Markhor counts as flying during the jump, so it can injure Animals in the air and be injured by Animals in the air (from a tailbite or by a Pterodactyl).
    • Turning is not possible during the jump.
    • If the Markhor walks off a rock/hill during the backwards motion, the ability is canceled and the cooldown will start.
  • The ramming ability is available on low ground. When W is pressed, the Markhor will rear backwards for about a second and rapidly charge forwards with its horns for a couple seconds. Any prey in the way will be launched into the sky and are damaged once they hit the ground. They will additionally bleed for a few seconds but do not have slowed movement. Hitting predators stuns them for around 2 seconds instead of throwing them or causing bleed.
    • The Markhor can't climb hills or rocks in the charge.
    • Hitting prey except near the end of the charge will cause the player to move backwards for a second, especially if prey is hit immediately. Hitting prey later in the charge does not have this property.
    • The ability can't be started up if standing on a water source. The Markhor can enter water as usual during the ram.
  • The Markhor can live outside of the Arctic without burning, in all biomes except for the Desert and Volcano. It also has the passive ability of Grip on Ice.

Big Goat[]

  • Aside from rarity and special abilities, all of the above criteria also apply to the Big Goat.
  • The rarity of the Big Goat is 15/700 (~2.14%) times.[1]
  • The Big Goat's ramming ability can be used on any animal from tier 1 to tier 15 (Chipmunk to The Yeti; this includes its tier 12 equivalents). It also has a faster cooldown rate compared to the regular Markhor.
    • While the ability can be used on animals at tier 16 and tier 17, it will not ram them into the air. Instead, it will cause them to endure minor and less effective bleeding.
  • The Big Goat has a larger leap distance.
  • The Big Goat can survive not only in Land and Ocean, but also in the Desert without experiencing debuff. It still will periodically burn near the Volcano.

Appearance[]

Season 2 Markhor[]

The current "Season 2" Markhor is a light gray-brown goat-like animal covered in shaggy fur. Its head is lighter, with small rounded ears and large brown spiral horns. It has a short snout with lips and a small dark gray nose. The Markhor has bared eyes. Its tail is rather fluffy but short.

When charging, the Markhor's/Big Goat's face and horns will extend forward. During the leap, legs will appear in front and behind the Animal.

Season 2 Big Goat[]

The Big Goat is relatively the same but its fur is more of a khaki brown. Its horns are different: They are thicker and bend backwards in a sort of V-shape.

Gold Trim[]

The Gold Trim Markhor, in comparison to the Season 1 Markhor, has shaggier fur, ears that curve upwards with lighter insides, and closer eyes. Its horns and ruff are both golden.

Fruity Ice Markhor[]

The Fruity Ice Markhor is light orange with vibrant orange fur. Its head is creme and has a red nose. The Animal has purple goggles reflecting orange off them. Its horns are red at the base, then orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet upwards. The Fruity Ice Markhor has large ears with orange and red insides. It wears a purple scarf with orange slices, blueberries, strawberries, limes, and lemons on it. Its legs are light orange and have two-toed hooves. It is the 2021 Summer skin for Markhor.

Golden Devil Goat[]

The Golden Devil Goat is a very dark brown, nearly black. It has 3 heads, each with 3 black eyes, a pink heart-shaped nose, long fur beneath, and small pointed ears. Two of the eyes are in a pair and have golden rectangular-shaped eyes typical of a goat. The third eye on the main head has a golden slim pupil, while the pupil is a star on the other heads. Each of the heads have a pair of spotted, thick, curled, and golden horns. The furry body has small lighter highlights like scales and a golden penchant near the tail. Its tails are long, adorned with two golden braces embedded with a ruby, and end with a tuft of fur the same color.

Season 1 Markhor[]

The Season 1 Markhor is a lighter, more gray color than the current one. It has less fur that is dark by the edges. Its horns are less twisted, and it has a larger tail.

Strategy[]

As a Markhor[]

  • As a Markhor, it's important to note that the animal has absolutely no form of stunning prey, therefore the player will have to be creative with their hunting methods.
    • One method is to try and throw prey into the borders of the map. Unlike many animals' abilities, there is no delay after the Markhor's ramming ability preventing the player from biting animals. This means that the player can inflict damage right after hitting prey without needing to worry about them using an ability to escape in the meantime, a trait useful for cornering.
  • Since the Markhor can live outside of the Arctic, it's a good idea to scavenge for prey in the Land biome too. The player can take advantage of the Arctic's debuff damage to increase the amount of damage their ram does. The Markhor drains water rather quickly outside of the Arctic, so it's important to stay hydrated.
  • As with most animals, if the player sees prey with low health coming by, they can ram them for a free lunch.
  • The Markhor is considered to be flying when it is jumping, so if the player is confident, they can attempt to kill flying birds by jumping into them. This might be difficult because the Markhor can't turn at all in its jump.
    • Besides this, the player should not use their leaping ability while chasing prey. The Markhor is briefly slow and can't turn for a second after jumping, which can cause prey to be further than before using the ability. Also, the player can't ram until the ability recharges.
  • One way of leveling up is to hog a Lake in the Arctic where the player can kill the ducks there by ramming them into the air. The ducks will die in two or three hits and spawn back quickly. The player can also eat Eggs that are laid, but they don't give much XP.
    • The Yeti, Sabertooth Tiger, Mammoth, and rarely Ice Monster often inhabit Arctic lakes to do this exact strategy, so the player might not be able to exercise it safely. The Markhor can't use its abilities while in water, so climb a nearby hill or rock to jump away from predators should one come by.
  • The player can routinely circle the Arctic to eat Arctic Nuts that grow in bushes and under Trees. Blackberries and Pears grow frequently and keep the player's water up.
  • The player can use their leap ability to bite Tails, although it's not preferable because the ability is slow and easy to counter.

Threats[]

  • The main predators of the Markhor are the Sabertooth Tiger, Mammoth, and Yeti.
  • Predators aren't very problematic to escape from because of the Markhor's versatility on land and jump ability. If the player is ever on the receiving end of a pursuit, they can simply climb on a Hill or Rock and then double tap 'W' as soon as possible and far away from the animal. The distance covered is hard to close for most predators with the exception of the Ice Monster who has long range with their crystals.
    • If possible, choose to leap from a rock. No Arctic predators can climb rocks, but most can climb hills. As long as the player doesn't slide off of the rock, they should be fine in the ability startup.
    • If the player is being chased by a Sabertooth Tiger, note that the player can be slashed off by a Sabertooth Tiger while on a Hill or Rock and be stunned for a deadly amount of time.
  • Mammoths can't climb rocks or hills, so the player can easily get away from one through a combination of climbing and leaping.
  • In the rare case the player is being chased by an Ice Monster, they should use hills and rocks to dodge ice crystals. The ice crystals fired are very strong, capable of inflicting massive damage and freeze-locking the player. Avoid them at all costs.
  • The Markhor can't use abilities in water, and is sluggish there. The player should never enter water in a chase.

Against a Markhor[]

As Prey[]
  • Markhors are often numerous in the Arctic. Their passive abilities make them hard to shake off once the player is in a pursuit.
  • The Markhor's charge has a second of delay that causes the animal to rear back before charging forwards rapidly. If the player sees a Markhor in the delay, they should go on a hill or around one if they can't to avoid the charge. If the player chooses a hill to get on, the player needs to get off of it as soon as the charge is over because Markhors can climb them.
    • Unlike a Rhino's charge, they have a lot of control over turning, so simply diverting will not work without obstructions.
  • The charge does not slow down prey upon landing. Since it takes some seconds for the Markhor to catch up after ramming and the player is usually thrown outside of their FOV, the player can use that time to hide or get away.
  • If a Markhor attempts to leap, the player can switch their direction to create more distance since Markhors can't turn in their jump and can't move for a bit afterwards.
  • Markhors are slow in water: If the player is fast in water, they can enter water to either cause the Markhor to swim sluggishly or go around, both which add time.
  • Although Markhors can live outside of the Arctic, they often don't. If the player can live outside the Arctic, they can farm away from Markhors pretty safely as long as they aren't seen.
As Predator[]
  • Markhors are hard to pursue because of their leap ability and versatility across different surfaces. None of its predators can traverse rocks.
  • Most of its predators are fast in water, something that the Markhor struggles in.
  • The Sabertooth Tiger can slash at the Markhor at tight turns. Its slash does a lot of damage, and stuns them for a long time.
  • The Mammoth has a difficult time chasing Markhors because it can't climb hills and its ability is quite slow.

As a Big Goat[]

  • The Big Goat is mostly the same as the regular Markhor, except it can throw all animals from Chipmunk tier to Yeti. With this in mind, the Big Goat is a formidable beast.
  • Big Goats can use their ramming ability offensively toward most predators. The ability does a moderate amount of damage and recharges faster than the damage can be healed, allowing the player to easily kill predators with 3-4 charges as long as they aren't too bold. The best time to ram into a predator is after they use their ability so they can't immediately retaliate. Otherwise, they could stop the player from ramming them.
    • It's best to ram most animals from their back. The majority of animals have abilities that act forwards: By targeting their tail, they have less time to react and stop the charge.
    • Dragons and T-REXes are difficult opponents: The Dragon can shoot fire to immediately stop the charge, and the T-REX's Jaw Bite has large range that stops the charge and inflicts a deadly amount of damage on the player. Unless the player is confident enough, avoid these two apexes and pursue easier ones like Phoenixes and Pterodactyls who can't immediately attack back.
  • Because the Big Goat is decently hard to get, it's more worth it to target predators instead of prey for much higher XP gain.
  • Like the Markhor, the player can throw people against a border as a cornering tactic.
  • Although frowned upon, the player can team with another Big Goat or other Rares to kill an apex tier predator.

In the Desert[]

  • One of the key differences between the Markhor and the Big Goat is the fact that the Big Goat can live in the Desert. This allows the Big Goat to take full advantage of the empowered ability because of the amount of running space as opposed to the Arctic.
  • If the player wants to go bonkers with their animal, they can ram animals into an area with lots of cacti. The animal would suffer considerable damage and have a difficult time getting out. The player can then finish the animal off with another charge.
    • If attempting this, the player needs to be careful with hitting the cacti while ambling or charging because it can stop the Big Goat's ability.
  • Pterodactyls are plentiful in the Desert. Their flying ability has considerable start up, long enough to allow the player to charge the Pterodactyl to cancel their ability, deal damage, and waste valuable Energy in the process. As long as they don't take off, the player can easily kill Pterodactyls.
  • Venus Flytraps will bite the player if they are too close. Their sweating bites deal a serious blow to the player's water bar, so stay clear of any fly traps.
  • The player can farm Aloevera and Cacti in the Desert if they want to go the pacifist route.

Threats[]

  • The Big Goat has the same threats as the normal Markhor, although due to its status as a Rare with a coin bounty, it may entice larger predators to attack. In particular, its largest threats are the Monsters because they are not affected by the ram(besides insignificant bleeding) and have superior hunting abilities.
    • In this case, the player can make use of the Big Goat's enhanced leap ability and rock climbing to stay out of the monster's reach. This will not work with Giant Scorpions and Land Monsters.
  • The Big Goat has two main threats in the Desert.
    • The most common of these is the Komodo Dragon. They can pivot and use their sweat bite while the player charges to instantly stop them in their tracks. Sweating prohibits boosting, abilities, and drains water extremely quickly, meaning that if the player is bit by one, they are probably dead. However, Komodo Dragons can't climb any terrain, so the player can climb hills and rocks to escape. The player should not leap on trees because Komodos can climb them.
      • Komodo Dragons sometimes make sweat drops that look like blue-green water drops. These cause prey like the Big Goat to sweat upon touch, so avoid them.
    • Giant Scorpions can climb all the terrain a Big Goat can, and are faster than the player. They can also take shortcuts during a chase through Quicksand and Oases, which the Big Goat needs to avoid due to slowness. Their sting ability will devastate the player's health. If the player sees one, they should immediately leap away and head toward the land border. The Giant Scorpion's stings are much less damaging outside of the Desert.
  • Lastly, the player needs to be mindful of their water-loss when outside of the Arctic. They drain a ridiculous amount of water, especially in the Desert. If the player is on low water, they should locate and jump to a water source as soon as possible.
    • It's usually not a good idea to use Hiding Holes outside of the Arctic because of this: Predators can easily wait out the player.

Against a Big Goat[]

As Prey[]
  • Big Goats rarely go after prey. If the player sees one, they usually don't need to worry. But in the rare case that one does attack the player, they can be dealt in the same way as a regular Markhor except for the increased damage.
As Predator[]
  • The Big Goat normally targets its predators. If the player sees one rear back to charge, they need to get out of the way.
  • Some Big Goats make the mistake of attacking Monsters - attack the Big Goat with an ability if it does.

Trivia[]

  • When the Markhor jumps from a hill or rock, it is considered to be flying. It can bite flying prey, it can be bitten by flying predators (only Pterodactyl right now), it can tail-bite flying predators, and can be tail-bitten by flying prey.
    • The only difference that prevents it from literally flying is the inability to turn mid-jump. Hence, it is considered semi-flyer.
  • It one of the few animals that isn't a species of another animal that doesn't always appear on the upgrade menu, along with The Bigfoot, Snowman and Snowgirl.
    • Both variants of Markhor are rare.
  • The original teaser for the Markhor was called 'King of Mountains'. In this teaser, the Markhor had a black nose which was scrapped in the final design.
  • A Markhor CAN jump from a hill onto an Igloo, and it will have a realistic effect, proving that this is an intended feature.
    • However, if they use their ability whilst on top of an Igloo, they will fall through the Igloo, and use their ability as if the igloo was gone.
  • The Markhor is the second rare in the game to have skins dedicated to it, first being the King Dragon.

Glitches[]

BuggedBigGoat

A freshly upgraded, yet bugged Big Goat

  • There was a bug in which the Big Goat had no chance whatsoever of appearing on the Upgrade Menu for several months
  • The Markhor, its skins, and the Big Goat fail to load their image on the Upgrade Menu.
  • The leg sprites during the Markhor's jumps are missing.
  • The Big Goat renders as an orange blob.
